Burning Down the House

I'm sad to say that this week is William's last at school.  I'm sad not for my sake, but more for William's!  He looooooves his school and has the most precious teachers on the face of the planet.  Miss Sharon and Miss Alice have made his first year of school a blast.  They even went to a WHOLE lotta trouble and made each child his/her own picture book of their school year.  It is super cute, extra special, and something we will always treasure!  Not to mention that since little brother came, school is about the only outlet this child has been afforded.   The picture below is William with his best buddy Hill.  We are so glad that he lives down the street so they can still play all summer!!
So, after the school party, our day went on as usual (lunch, playing outside, and then naptime for both boys).  Once I had them both in bed, I came downstairs to boil pacifiers...it had been a while, and I don't even want to think about what organisms might have been on them, but that's for another day.  Right after I put them in the pot, Charlie started crying (shocker, I know).  So, I go upstairs to check on him, and in the meantime, the phone rings.  I run to my room to catch it, and it's a friend I haven't talked to in a while.  We are busy catching up and talk for a minimum of 40 minutes, maybe longer, I tend to lose track of time when I'm engrossed in a good conversation.  I'm on my way back downstairs after we hang up, and....wait...where's all that smoke coming from??  I left a candle burning, but that's weird, they don't usually smoke like that.  Wait.....what's that awful smell??  Uh huh and uh oh.  Pacifiers.  Still on the stove.  High heat.  An hour later.  They were completely melted and burning in the bottom of my pan.  Luckily, there weren't any flames, just a WHOLE lot of smoke and a really nasty smell.  I had to throw the pot out the back door to the patio and soak it with the water hose...then, I had to throw my pot in the trash!  After the boys woke up, we decided to play in the front yard...my nostrils had had all they could handle for a while.  Boy, it's hard to get a good picture of two kids!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mary - So good to read your story...I did the same thing when Cole was about 6 weeks old except I had gone into his room when he started crying and fell asleep in the chair rocking him...it was terrible! luckyily, like you, it was just smokey but it scared me to death! Hope you are doing well! I have a little gift for Charlie that I will hopefully get in the mail to you this week. take care!
